Equipment

For my photoshoots I am going to use professional equipment to make sure that my photographs are the best quality that they can be. The camera that I am going to use is the Cannon 70D, this is a high definition camera which produces photographs of an excellent quality. I will make sure that I have a fully charged camera battery when I take my photographs to prevent the risk of the camera dying. I will also use both of my camera lenses when taking the photographs because they both have different features, the first lens is the Cannon 18-135 mm. This lens will allow me to get more within the frame and also allows me to zoom in and out of my subject matter. The second lens is the Cannon 50mm, this is a fixed length lens therefore I wont be able to zoom in or out of this lens. This lens also doesn't have automatic focus. This lens will be good for taking close up shots of my model. I will also be using a tripod to ensure that my photographs are straight and that they will not become blurry.

When taking the photographs for my magazine front cover I will use a white backdrop for the background. This will make the background for my magazine front cover more simplistic therefore making the cover-lines easier to read and stand out more. I will also use white studio lighting when taking these studio photographs to make sure that the images we well lit and not to dark. This will help to make them appear more professional and of a better quality.

Photoshoot Risk Assessment

I decided to create a risk assessment table to identify and consider any potential hazards and risks that may occur during the photoshoots. The risk assessment table is good for health and safety purposes because if any of them occur then I will be able to deal with it effectively because I was able to identify them in advance.

Locations

Brick Lane/ Shoreditch:

Brick Lane and Shoreditch are both well known for the vast amount of graffiti walls that they have. I think that these walls would make for good backgrounds for my double page spread. Because there is such a variety in these locations I will be able to find ones of different styles and colours which will be helpful because then I will be able to consider my colour scheme (red, black and white).

Brick Lane is also home to a variety of different vintage stores. I think that it would be interesting to take some photographs of my model in these stores either looking at the clothing they sell or sitting down in one of the chairs in the store. I think that the vintage shops “Blitz” would be a good location for this because I like the decor inside and think that this decor would make for an interesting background.

Five Arches: 

I think that five arches park would be a good location for taking some photographs for either my contents page or double page spread. I think that the bridge at five arches would be good to photograph with the model sitting on top of it. I think that a greenery background would compliment the outfit with the black skinny jeans, grey crop top and the green flannel.

Photoshoot Schedules

For each of the photoshoots, I plan to do I have created a separate call sheet. This is so that I can have a schedule/plan to follow whilst taking the photographs as well as to remind me of certain ideas that I have come up with. On the call sheet I included information such as location, dates and timing, costumes and equipment that I will need. Listed below and the three call sheets for the photoshoots that I plan to do.

I have organised times and dates with my model, so we both know where and when the photoshoots will be taking place. Then I can start to figure out the necessary travel arrangements for us to get to and from each location within our time frame. Below are some of the messages that I have exchanged with my model in order to complete the photoshoots.

Magazine Double Page Spread Plan

Below is my hand drawn magazine double page spread plan. It is important for me that when designing my double page spread that there is a good balance of images and text because I don't want my target audience to get bored. Therefore I plan to include at least 5 images along the left hand side of the double page spread in addition to the main image which will also be the background of the double page spread. I have decided to split the double page spread in half so that when folded the main body text doesn't become difficult to read. I plan to use 2 pull quotes on my double page spread; the first being positioned below the headline and the other being positioned in the middle of the main body text. I plan for the pull quotes to have quite a large font size so that they stand out on the page and will make people want to read the article to find out the quotes context. I plan for the model in the main image on the double page spread to be looking to the right as if she is looking at the article/interview. In the top right hand corner of the double page spread I plan to put the magazines logo/masthead (Phoenix), this will help to create fluency within my magazine and reinforce the brand, hopefully making people remember it.

Magazine Contents Page Plan

Below is my hand drawn magazine contents page plan. I sketched out the different sections that I would like to have included on the contents pages, this was to help split the page up clearly so that my target audience could easily navigate around the page. I plan to include at least 2 different images on my contents page so that they is more of an equal ratio of picture:text. In the bottom right hand corner I want to include a small advertisement of the social media sites that the magazine uses; using the sites logo/icon to add more images to the image and colour to the page. Whilst not drawn to scale on my plan, I want the masthead of “Contents” page to take up just over half of the top of the contents page. This is to make it obvious what this page is within the magazine and to highlight its importance. Underneath this I plan to use a pug to again write the issue number and the website of the music magazine. I also plan to use headings/sections to divide up the articles within my magazine. This will help in creating a contents page which is easy to navigate around.
